The Best Easy Hikes in Yosemite

Short trails, big granite: the walks that pay off without the all-day climb.

Yosemite is famous for its waterfalls, granite walls, and giant sequoias, but you don't need to summit anything to see the good stuff. The valley packs most of its showstoppers into a handful of short, flat walks, and a couple of higher-elevation strolls reward you well beyond the effort. Here's where to point your feet if you want maximum view for minimum suffering.

The four easiest valley walks

If you only have a day, stay in Yosemite Valley. These are paved or wide-dirt, mostly flat, and stroller-survivable.

Barely-a-hike viewpoints

Some of Yosemite's most photographed scenes ask almost nothing of you.

Easy hikes with the wow factor

Hiking with kids: pacing that works

The valley loops are made for short legs: paved surfaces, shade, water nearby, and bailout points everywhere. Build the day around Lower Yosemite Fall plus Cook's Meadow, then let the kids cool off near the Merced River. Pick up a Junior Ranger booklet at a visitor center. The activities turn a walk into a scavenger hunt. And give yourself buffer: the valley shuttle and parking eat more time than the trail mileage suggests.
